Tokorozawa Studios

Devised in partnership with Japanese entertainment giant Seibu Corporation, RAD and its commissioned development consultant worked to convert a defunct dinosaur museum within the Tokorozawa stadium district into a functioning film production studio. With cost and local engineering codes being a key cost barrier to erecting new structures within the Tokyo prefecture, our strategy focused on a clever repositioning of the high bay trusses which composed the museum to create new broadcast stages that could support the adjacent baseball Stadium.  Additionally, production support facilities were proposed in a manner that would provide optimal functionality without the need to re-engineer the critical structural systems existing on site. The project was priced and engineered throughout the design process to provide cost controls and ensure the asset could be brought back to market below replacement cost.
